Guide MICHELIN has chosen Karlsruhe as the official host city for the prestigious Guide MICHELIN Germany 2023 star awards ceremony.
The festive star ceremony with the new restaurant recommendations will take place on April 4, 2023.

“The region’s gastronomy definitely has a lot to offer, from high-quality culinary offerings to interesting wine-growing regions such as the Ortenau, Kraichgau and Palatinate in the immediate neighborhood,” comments Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of Guide MICHELIN, on the choice of host city. “We are delighted that the best of the German culinary scene will soon gather in Karlsruhe to celebrate gastronomic excellence and the tireless commitment of the country’s most talented professionals.”

The former residential city has impressed the team of the Guide MICHELIN and thus secured the bid for the MICHELIN Star Revelation 2023. Karlsruhe and the region boast an enormous variety of exquisite restaurants: from starred gastronomy to kitchens that have been awarded the Bib Gourmand by Michelin and Green Star restaurants that pay particular attention to sustainable, conscious cuisine.

On the top of that, Karlsruhe is an absolute pearl of the federal state of Baden-Württemberg – with an impressive history. In 1715, Count Margrave Karl III. Wilhelm von Baden-Durlach laid the foundation stone for the baroque planned city. According to legend, the margrave was inspired to build his residence in a dream. In the style of baroque and neoclassicism, Karlsruhe delights locals and tourists with its appealing architecture, such as that of the Versailles-inspired Karlsruhe Castle. In addition, the surrounding area also offers sights to relax in, such as beautiful gardens, forests, hills and the Rhine Valley. The gastronomic landscape of this attractive destination is also appreciated beyond the country’s borders – for example, by French gourmets from Alsace who love to cross the border and enjoy an authentic and inspiring restaurant experience.

“Thanks to its location in the sunny Rhine plateau and its immediate proximity to France, enjoyment and culinary delights are part of life in Karlsruhe. For us, the MICHELIN star awards are a great opportunity to promote our Baden hospitality and the cultural diversity of our green city far beyond the borders of the state. We have therefore chosen the motto for the entire year 2023 as ‘Karlsruhe. A city to enjoy’,” says Pascal Rastetter, Managing Director of KTG Karlsruhe Tourismus GmbH.

On April 4, 2023, all spotlights will be on Karlsruhe, where the MICHELIN Star Ceremony will take place, officially launching the new Guide MICHELIN Germany restaurant selection. Gourmands can get all the latest information on the upcoming event on this website, as well as on the Michelin Newsroom and social media.
